We'll be getting married on October 21, 2006, at 6:20 p.m. at the Old Stone Church in Maple Hill, KS. Following the ceremony, there will be an Hors d'Oeuvres & cake reception at the K-State Student Union Ballroom until 10 p.m.
The Old Stone Church in Maple Hill was built in 1882 and is not used for regular services, mostly because it lacks modern facilities, such as electricity and running water.
So, a couple caveats:
- as October evenings can get quite chilly, we'd recommend approaching this as an "outdoor" wedding and dressing appropriately. Then again, if we squeeze enough people into a tiny church, maybe we'll warm up the place!
- There are no restroom facilities at the church. The Maple Hill exit of I-70 has a convenience store, which would be a perfect, last-minute pit-stop before the ceremony. The ceremony should only last 10-17 minutes, so we hope this will not be too much of an inconvenience.
Although this is not a home football game weekend, there is a very limited amount of hotel accommodation available in Manhattan, so we would suggest booking a room very soon, or making alternative plans, possibly including: hotels in nearby towns (Wamego, Topeka), returning home, or staying with local friends or family.
The climate during late October in Maple Hill, Kansas is characterized by an average high of 66° and a low of 44°. We've set up a Wedding Weather webpage at Weather.com, that you can check as we get closer to the wedding date to plan how many layers you should wear.
